Biography

Jan Koen Lomans (Rotterdam, 1978) studied at the Academy of Arts St. Joost in Breda and Den Bosch and graduated in 2006 in textile tapestry. He lives and works in Utrecht.
The Central Museum has recently acquired the first three tapestries from the Nocturne series for their collection. Work by Lomans has previously been exhibited by Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Central Museum Utrecht, KAdE Amersfoort and Museum Oud Amelisweerd, amongst others. His artworks are created on commission or acquired by governmental departments, companies, collectors and private individuals, nationally and internationally.

Grants/scholarships

2010 – Stipend to invest in artistic career for a period of 7 months by the Netherland
Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture (Fonds BKVB/Mondriaan Fund)

2011 – Research stipend by the Dutch TextileLab of the Textile museum for a 4 months work period/project on new forms of tufting (technique).

2011 – Stipend to invest in artistic career for a period of 6 months by the Netherland
Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture (Fonds BKVB/Mondriaan Fund)

2012/2013 – Research stipend for a period of 5 months by the Mondriaan Fund.

2015 Depth development grant. Stipend for Depth Development Artistic Practice. In collaboration with University of Wales TSD. Mondriaan Fund.

2015/2018 – Talent development grant. Stipend for Established artist, for a period of 4 year. Mondriaan Fund.

2016 Stipend for research on fusing glass and textile. BKKC- Province Noord-Brabant.
